OXDX uses a number of social outlets to express and share content, one of these outlets is the 'oxdxclothing' Snapchat account. I started this account earlier this year when I was taking part of a weekend gathering with the Honor The Treaties crew. It was such a unique opportunity, I wanted to share it in real time. Snapchat is such a useful tool for these events. Its accessible right in my pocket and more spontaneous, rather than the thought out post you would share on FB, Twitter, or IG. I was quickly addicted to making stories and interacting with those also enamored with the Snapchat world. I was amazed with how interesting it can be to view the everyday lives of the "current Native" person. I quickly started to grow this account and planned "takeovers" by other interesting Native's doing great work in Native country. The Blue Bird Pin Ups are big hits with their hair tutorials, rockin vibes, and unique personalities. The account has also traveled with activist and hip hop artist Nataanii Means on his many shows, events, and protests. I found out this was a great way for people to feel connected with events that they, themselves, couldn't attend.
It was the day before Columbus day and I was racking my brain on how I could share and keep track of all the amazing photos and posts that were sure to flood my social media. The weeks before I printed over 200 "Native Americans Discovered Columbus" tees that were sent to universities in San Diego and Rochester, NY for their respected events. If you are familiar with Snapchat you're bound to see the stories they feature from specific events or even entire countries. These stories are so interesting to me, I love watching the different cultures and how the story jumps between many people. Which gave me the idea... Obviously we don't have enough traction to have Snapchat sponsor one of these stories for a Native issue but I thought, why can't we do this ourselves. I had many friends from all over celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day so I invited them to share it with my fans via Snapchat. The video below was our result. I hope you enjoy!
Give us a follow on Snapchat! I go places sometimes and every now and meet some pretty cool people. Cheers!
