"TRIBUTE" 8TH Generation Collab Wool Blanket
Blanket and rug design are deep rooted concepts with Diné people. It is so engrained in Navajo culture I felt a fair amount of research should go into my new design with Seattle based company Eighth Generation. I returned home to ask my mother about this process in which she pulled from her collection the rugs my maternal and paternal grandmothers woven in their time. They both had distinct styles and patterns they loved to weave. Later I would seek information from an auntie of mine that is well known for the rugs she creates. She pointed out details in my grandmothers rugs that showed where they were from, what plants they lived near to dye the yarn, their rugs told stories about their unique lives. So in returned I created this design to tell of the legacy I am carrying on. My grandmothers aren’t with us anymore, I titled this blanket TRIBUTE to honor them.
